A few months back I was contacted by Darren Phillips to photograph his proposal. The plan was to get a helicopter to take us to the top of a mountain where he could then ‘pop the question’. The trick was to not let his girlfriend, Adele, clue in to what was going on. We started planning and came up with the idea to make a mock voucher saying he won a helicopter tour with Rockies Heli for Two. Part of the tour was to included one photo as part of their tour. When Darren and Adele arrived at the Banff Heli Pad, we just made it sound like I was there working for Rockies Heli documenting some new material for their next brochure, as well as being there to snap a picture of them while we were on the mountain top with nice views. We even managed to get a makeup artist (Jenna Anderson) on the flight pretending that she was my assistant. The idea was to do their engagement session on top of the mountain right after he proposed. Adele had no idea that any of this was going to take place and that Darren was going to propose to her! It was a success. Check it out:
